I’ve been doing a fair amount of running with Sarah Green lately - as she’s in the middle of training up for a triathalon, and i’m just always looking for a running buddy. It’s been great, because she’s super fit and really knows her stuff when it comes to fittness and all my rookie questions.
Anyway, as Sarah is in the midst of training for this upcoming triathalon, it has been making me question why I’m always doing so much running what my actual goals are. Whilst Sarah is jogging along with her heart rate monitor, her spiffy calorie counter watch, her pedometre and her speed tracker, im just bopping along with Kanye in my ears… because i enjoy it – thats my only reason. I think it’s a good enough reason too – I mean we should only really do things if we enjoy it, right? Well whilst I enjoy it, I feel like I could be pushing myself more. I love running, it makes me feel great, but admittingly I am getting a little bored of running the same routes and distances everyday.
So with inspiration from my new fittness idol, I’ve decided to enter the HBF Run for a Reason on the 22nd of May. I’ve been reading up on it for the past week and finally entered this morning, and man I am so excited! Its a fantastic event which supports 6 of the major health charities around WA (arthritis, cancer, athma, diabeties, heart foundation and lifeline counceling). I really want to try and raise as much money as possible, particularly for the Cancer Foundation as it’s cancer which has taken the lives of the small amount of family that i’ve personally lost.
If any of you guys want to run it with me, the more we can get on board, the better! There are options to walk the course as well, and the choice to either walk/run 4.5k’s or walk/run 14k’s. I’ll be doing the 14, but if anyone wants to make a team in any category, its the participation and donations that count.
I think this event is an awesome reason to get up and improve your fittness, as it’s for such a great cause which will benifit you and others in the long run. Please let me know if you want to join or make a donation, it would be so appreciated
